YOU ARE WELCOME

St. Thomas strives to be a place of welcome and hospitality, extended to all people in the name of Jesus Christ.

We are a parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama, part of The Episcopal Church in the USA, and of the world-wide Anglican Communion. Our worship is according to the Book of Common Prayer.

There are two Sunday morning services, celebrations of the Holy Eucharist (also called Holy Communion). Both services normally use contemporary language. The early service, at 8:15am, is without choir or music. The 10:30am service includes music and choir.

Christian Formation (Christian Education or Sunday School) is held between the services, from 9:30 until 10:15.

A Welcome from our Clergy:

Welcome to the St. Thomas Website! The medium of the Internet has caused some social commentators to worry about human beings becoming separated from one another because of all the time we spend in front of our computers. Perhaps in some cases that is true; however, the Web is also a wonderful tool through which we can quickly find out information. In this website you will certainly find plenty information about St. Thomas. What I hope comes through in addition is the warmth and hospitality that so many have found when they walk through our doors.

Of the many things the Bible teaches us about Jesus, one that stands out as much as any is that he welcomed all kinds of people. We know that he welcomed outcasts and sinners, for which he was criticized. But he also welcomed the curious man who climbed a tree to catch a glimpse of him. He welcomed a rich young ruler. He welcomed children. He welcomed those broken and beat up by life. He welcomed all. No matter who you are, if this website leads you to walk through our doors here on Acton Road in Birmingham, I hope you will be welcomed as Jesus welcomed—with a hospitality that comes from God. And, in this Internet age, if you have stumbled upon our website from some other place in God’s Kingdom, we pray that through it you will find something that will draw you closer to God in Jesus Christ.
