WORSHIP

At its root, worship describes that to which we give worth. It is an act by which we declare something to be worthy of our attention, our focus, our dedication, our commitment.

The Church is many things, but at its core, it is a community of faithful people gathered to worship. If you would know what we believe, worship with us. Our words and our actions declare our faith. When we gather to pray and to praise, to be fed and to love one another, we lay aside our differences, our grievances, our disunity, and we join together as one people united in and by love.

Our central act of worship is the weekly celebration of Holy Eucharist, also known as the Lord's Supper, Holy Communion, or the Mass. This is a celebration of the central mystery of our faith, the Word made Flesh. We hear the stories of our faith as read from Holy Scripture and shared by preaching. We raise our voices in songs of praise. We greet one another in peace and love and we return to God some portion of that which God has given us. And we turn to that Holy Table where all are fed.

In the Episcopal Church, we worship liturgically, guided by the Book of Common Prayer. It is not some rote ritual we follow, but a living and vibrant act by which we join with millions of others throughout the world. The roots of our form of worship are as old as the Church. Yet we seek to use words and images which speak to us here and now.

All are welcome to God's Table. In each pew you will find a leaflet explaining Holy Communion and what to expect. The service bulletin will guide you to the appropriate pages in the hymnal and the Book of Common Prayer. But what really matters is not whether you turn to the right page or even say the right words. What really matters is that you are welcome, you are accepted, you are loved. Our's is a family with no outcasts and no strangers. Come, join us as we lift our hearts and voices.
